The International Sheep Dog Societies
International Sheep dog Trials 2005
Working Border Collies from across the 4 home countries came to
Herefordshire for this year's International Sheepdog Championships.
Some 60 of the finest Border Collies from across the UK competed in
this most prestigious of sheepdog trials, the ISDS International
Sheepdog Championships.
As with every other year at the International Sheepdog Trials, there
were several different competitions. The ISDS Brace Championship was
held at the noon break during the 2 days of qualifying. Here the Brace
Champions of their individual countries compete with their Border
Collies for the ISDS Supreme Brace Championship. Then the Young
Handlers competition was held on the Saturday with 4 young Border
Collie handlers and enthusiasts competing for the ISDS Young Handlers
Trophy. Then there's the ISDS Supreme Driving Championship, the final
contest of the 3 days of trials.
One of the most significant trophies to be awarded in the world of the
Border Collie, and for any Border Collie enthusiasts, is the Wilkinson
Sword Trophy. For 2005 this fine award went to the well known and
formidable sheepdog handler, Jim Cropper. Jim has been a strong
influence for many novice Border Collie owners and also for the many up
and coming competitors in the world of sheepdog trialing. Jim came to
Herefordshire to compete in this years ISDS Brace Championship and also
in the ISDS Supreme championship. He managed to go through to qualify
for the final day.
2005 was a busy year for the International Sheep Dog Society, the ISDS.
Following their successful World Sheep Dog Trials held at Tullamore, in
Southern Ireland. Here over 230 Border Collies from around the world
came to compete in this 2nd World Trial. Following the World Sheepdog
trials, the ISDS then had the challenge of over-seeing the 4 National
Sheepdog Championships before this final trial at Ross.
For other Border Collie videos please look on our web site. We have a
training video called, "Starting Your Border
Collie on Cattle, Sheep or
Ducks". It comes highly recommended by magazines such as the Working
Border Collie magazine. Other Border Collie and Sheepdog videos include
the different years of the ISDS
International Sheepdog Championships,
and also the United States Border Collie
Handlers Finals (USBCHA) from 1999 through to 2003.
It has been a privilege to have been able to work with so many of the
finest Border Collie handlers and Border Collie dogs throughout the
year, filming at the finest of sheepdog trials since 1988, at Blair
Athol. Border Collies have been a significant part of our lives here on
our farm for many years.
