When I look at the most successful sheep producers that I have known, they have all been following a traditional sheep practice. Not only have they been successful, but they are also the shepherds that have managed to remain in the sheep industry for the longest period of time. To the outsider, or a newcomer to the industry, an annual production of a 175% lambs to ewes appears boring and old-fashioned especially when much greater possibilities seem to be easily obtained when studying the figures of both prolific sheep breeds and accelerated lambing management. But the truth is, the old fashioned system will most likely work well in your new sheep operation and allow you to learn as you grow.
