Working
Horses of the 90s
2
Hours
|
|

|
Although this video has been around
for over 4 years now, it’s still as popular now as when we first
produced this video.
When I initially set out to produce this video, I was mainly interested in
showing how working horses still earn a living in our rural countryside.
There are many teams displayed at our agricultural shows today that will
never actually be used for practical work. My interest was to show the
other side of the working horse, the ones who actually worked for their
bread and butter. And in my travels across Canada, into the States and
then through England, Wales and Scotland, I found many diverse and
interesting ways where horses were still being used.
|
|
The Welsh Cobs used on the canal boats in Wales, Clydesdales and Ardennes
working the huge forests on the borders of Scotland and England, grade
horses choring the large ranches of Western Canada, just to mention a few.
This video also highlights some of the characters and crafts that
accompany the horse such as Farriers and Wheelwrights.
Looking back to when I was producing this video, I can honestly say I
wouldn’t change any part of the original production. As it stands, I
feel it is a grand documentary of the Working Horse.

The Draft
Horse Journal magazine said, “two
full hours and very professionally produced. The photography, commentary
and interviews are all excellent”.

Changing Ways of Farming
2
Hours
|
|
Over
a year has gone into the filming of this 2 hour video program, from both
sides of the Atlantic. It
covers the earliest of steam and gasoline power and the work that was
accomplished with this equipment. Descriptive
interviews with many characters offers us a true opportunity to understand
the working and histories of this equipment and the different ways that
much of this machinery was used.
|
|
The formidable steam traction engine, the
stationary steam engine, the first gasoline tractors plus the inside story
on much of the equipment that these engines ran.

A Yoke of Oxen & The Early Settlers
90
Minutes
|
|
This is one of our most recently produced videos. I just loved the time I
spent with these characters and their craft when I was filming this video.
My objective, when I set out to produce this program, was to produce a
documentary of the teamsters, hear their stories, look back into the
history of the oxen, and create a story that was worthy of this
disappearing part of the pioneer’s life. And from the feedback received
from our customers, I believe I
managed to achieve these goals. We captured and preserved an important
part of our rural history for many to see and other generations to
appreciate.
|
|
|
Oxen
played an important role in the settlement of the new world. With the help
of the Ross Farm Museum, we have been able to capture the life and history
of the early settlers and their work with their oxen.
Spending well over a week, filming this program, I became enthused
by the commitment of these men and women working at the museum. Their
attention to detail and, above all, their wide scope of knowledge on this
subject was captivating. Yoke making, shoeing, ploughing, woods work,
plus many other aspects of the ox teamster’s way of life are
depicted in this video.
In addition to my time
filming at Ross Farm, I spent a few days filming at the Bridgewater
Agricultural Exhibition, home of the annual International Ox Pull where
some 80 teams come to compete.
|
|
The
stories are told by the characters who work these fine
animals.
This
is what H.B. of Dawsonville,
Georgia said, “This video took
me back through the history of these wonderful animals, and
showed
how they worked with the pioneers, and even today, are still
used on farms and in woods in
some areas. The music, the interviews,
the pictures were all put together very professionally.
Just a very interesting
video.”

The Rural Delivery magazine review of
our Yoke of Oxen concluded:
"In a word: A winner".

The Canadian Rancher
90
Minutes
|
|
|
It
took 3 years and 6000 miles of travelling to complete this video,
resulting in nearly 30 hours of raw footage.
Since it became available it has been viewed all around the world,
used as a back drop to a large national championship steer show, and
enjoyed by thousands.
This
video follows the life of a traditional Western Rancher’s year. Join
Mark as he tells the story of his life as a rancher.
The program begins in January, feeding the cowherd using a team of
horses when temperatures are below minus 20 degrees. Then follow the
seasons with Mark through calving time, brandings, round ups, bull sales,
calf sales, breaking a team of chore horses and much more. Learn about the
life and history of this part of the West.
|

 |
The Canadian Rancher
is a documentary of an almost lost way of life. But, in its
own way, it is also an educational
program describing, to the viewer, a way of life which would be otherwise
unknown to the vast majority
of people.

video"

A
legendary show that encompasses the many sides of Scotland's rural
