2. When deciding on buying a Border Collie pup, you should bear in mind that some dogs will be more suitable for certain jobs. A dog that has to work rough and ready cow calf pairs will need to have different characteristics than a dog selected for a small dairy operation. It would be best to select your pup from breeding lines that are already proven for the type of work that you will have for your dog. A weak dog in a cow calf operation will always need to back down from the inevitable challenge. Here a dog with confidence and power will be your best bet. If trialing is going to be your thing, then don’t pick that strong powerful dog as a more refined type of dog may best suit your needs.
